This hojicha was made from tea leaves that grew quickly over the summer months and were harvested in early October. Although by this time, the tea leaves will be rather hard (i.e.,  in comparison to the early summer tea leaves), by roasting the tea leaves, one will obtain a lovely hojicha with a pleasant and autumnal aroma.

Leaves from the autumn harvest are low in caffeine. Therefore, we recommend hojicha to those who care about their caffeine intake and/or to those who are sensitive to caffeine. It is also a perfect tea to enjoy at the end of one’s day. Hojicha can also be easily made with boiling hot water (you do not have to be too careful about the hot water temperature as in senchas), so it is a tea one may enjoy quite light-heartedly and easily.

This hojicha comes from Setoya Megumi Tea Garden in Setoya district, Fujieda city. The tea farm owner, who trained at a tea farm in Fujieda City in 2017, regenerated the abandoned tea plantation with his friends in 2018. The Setoya district is a mountainous area in Fujieda City. We take care to maintain the rich natural environment of this tea farm, with the aim of making delicious tea for both the brewers and drinkers. And, it is pesticide and chemical fertilizer free.
