Hojicha & Matcha Ice Cream Bars Recipes - Yunomi.life

This cold, dreamy Hojicha & Matcha ice creams are the perfect summer time treat to beat the heat. No need to buy special ingredients, and no cooking required.

Just grab Hojicha powder or Matcha, sugar, milk, and fruit, and then mix, pour and freeze.

Here are some tips to make the ice creams. The style you choose is up to you! Also wouldn't you like to have a fun summer activity to do with children? They will love them!

Hojicha powder or Matcha, which one is good for you?

Matcha is powdered tea made from tencha.  (See more here. How matcha is made ) It has a grassy and slightly bitter taste with notes of sweetness and umami savoriness. You've probably had it before.

How about Hojicha powder? This is ground roasted Japanese green tea. If you haven't had Hojicha before, hojicha powder is an easy way to experience the naturally sweet taste and the pleasant aroma of Hojicha.

Both teas suit ice cream very well. I'd recommend Matcha if you want to enjoy refreshing and slight bitter "adult" taste. If you want to enjoy the special relaxing aroma, and if you haven't had Hojicha flavor before, I'd recommend Hojicha. In fact, I'd like you to try both of them!

Type of Mold

You could use anything you have at home! If you use a silicon mold, you can take the ice cream out from the mold easily.

Type of Milk

You can use any type of milk.  I tried dairy milk, soy milk and almond milk. All of them are very nice, but I especially like almond milk. The nutty milk flavor matches tea flavored ice cream.

Recommended Combinations

Hojicha with Banana

The roasty flavor of Hojicha and the sweet rich taste of banana will make you feel happy. Children would like the taste.

Matcha with Kiwi or Pineapple

The sour taste of kiwi/pineapple and sweet savoriness and a slight bitterness of matcha will make you a refreshing time.

Making without fruit is good too. You can feel the tea flavor and the creamy taste directly.
