The gokou variety (cultivar) of tea plant was developed especially for the climate and soil of the Kyoto region (it is unregistered but pretty common in Kyoto prefecture) and produces a matcha that is creamier in comparison to your typical matcha. This cultivar is well-suited for shading and therefore makes a high quality matcha. It's distinct characteristic is the unique aroma that may remind you of earth.
